Subject of the funding programme

The object of the funding is high-risk industrial precompetitive R&D projects that are cross-technological and application-oriented. These R&D projects must be related to the field of photonics and must be important for the company’s positioning in the market. The main objective of BMBF funding is to strengthen the position of SMEs in the accelerated transfer of technology from the pre-competitive field to practical application.

Funding is provided for cross-thematic R&D projects in the field of photonics. The following topics or issues are included as examples:

  • Photonics in production
  • Optical metrology and sensor technology
  • Optical components and systems
  • Lighting technology
  • Organic electronics

More information

In the first stage of the procedure, project outlines can be submitted online at any time via the online outline tool for the funding measure “KMU-innovativ: Photonik” on the KMU Innovativ Internet portal. The required information for participation in the announcement is available on the Internet portal.

Evaluation deadlines for project outlines are April 15 and October 15 of each year.
