As one of the world’s leading companies in thin-film technology, Bühler Leybold Optics develops and manufactures high-vacuum coating systems for a very wide range of applications. With its vacuum coating systems, the company helps optimize energy efficiency, convenience and food preservation, among other things. Coatings for ophthalmic and precision optics products such as lenses, lasers, or high-performance telescopes round out Bühler’s product portfolio. Foundation
The company was founded in the mid-19th century by pioneers Ernst Leybold and Wilhelm Carl Heraeus. This gave rise to two garage companies, which merged in 1967 to form Leybold Optics. In the meantime, more than 200 employees are working in Germany. At the beginning of 2012, Leybold Optics GmbH became a subsidiary of the Bühler Group based in Switzerland. In this context, the main production of Bühler Leybold Optics takes place in Alzenau, Germany.
