Aim of the promotion

  • Funding measure within the framework of the strategic goals of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to strengthen the European Research Area (ERA).
  • Goal: Strengthening cooperation between science and industry with selected Danube riparian countries, especially EU13 countries and the Western Balkans.
  • Focus on multilateral technology cooperation with Croatia, Slovakia, Albania and Montenegro.
  • Strengthening cooperation between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and, where appropriate, research institutions.
  • Project results should enable market-impacting innovations with civilian applications in line with EUREKA objectives.
  • Emphasis on sustainable contribution to value chains.
  • Strategic project funding to promote cooperation and innovation between the above countries and European research and innovation programs.

Subject of the funding programme

  • Funded projects are international collaborative projects with partners from the target countries Croatia, Slovakia, Albania and Montenegro.
  • Thematically open, but certain topics are excluded.
  • Practice-relevant projects should develop new technologies, products or services.
  • Technology maturity level TRL 4 to 6 targeted at the end.
  • Cooperation between countries should create added value, such as improved knowledge base and access to resources.
  • Results should reflect the contributions of all participating countries.

Period of validity

  • This Funding Guideline shall enter into force upon its publication in the Federal Gazette.
  • The term of the funding guideline ends on June 2024, based on the AGVO.
  • In the event of an extension of the AGVO without significant changes to its content, the funding guideline will be extended accordingly, but not beyond June 30, 2028.
  • If the GBER is not renewed or substantially amended, a new funding directive will be put into effect in accordance with the exemption provisions then in effect until at least June 30, 2028.
