Guideline for the funding of international projects in science and research between Southeast Asia and Europe in the field of "New Materials and Green Transition" within the framework of the Southeast Asia - Europe Joint Funding Scheme

Aim of the promotion

  • Southeast Asia dynamic region as a trading partner and partner in research and innovation
  • To strengthen Germany’s and Europe’s multilateral relations with Southeast Asia in numerous fields, such as transformation, in the interests of Germany
  • In order to promote bi-regional research and innovation cooperation, the Southeast Asia – Europe Joint Funding Scheme for Research and Innovation was established by the European Commission
  • The Funding Scheme allows existing bilateral approaches of cooperation between Southeast Asia and the EU and associated countries to be bundled and expanded -> funding program strengthens the scientific excellence of all partners involved, while at the same time contributing to the desired integration of the European Research Area
  • The aim of the BMFTR’s participation is for German researchers to network with various international players in order to benefit from a diverse exchange of knowledge
  • In addition to research opportunities, efficient, broad-based networks should also lay the foundations for technology transfer in both directions
  • Funding guideline aims to promote innovations relevant to both regions -> strengthens multilateral cooperation between German researchers and partners in Europe and Southeast Asia – by pooling knowledge, infrastructure and networks, all participants benefit, synergies are exploited and long-term research and development partnerships with access to complementary expertise are established

Object of the funding

  • Both individual and joint projects are funded in accordance with the described purpose of the grant in international cooperation with partners from Southeast Asia and Europe
  • Joint research work on the development and application of new materials for sustainable technologies is funded
  • The focus is on functional materials, enabling innovations in various areas such as energy, cooling, electronics and medicine
  • Funded projects will aim to design and synthesize new materials with tailored properties, including nanomaterials, thermoelectric materials and magnetic coolants
  • Collaboration will also explore bio-inspired and hybrid materials for next-generation applications, calling for interdisciplinary approaches and scalable solutions
  • Thematic frameworks (not exclusive): thermoelectric materials for energy conversion and cooling, magnetic materials for cooling and energy systems, advanced sorbents and release materials

Period of validity

The funding guideline enters into force on the day of its publication in the Federal Gazette. The term of this funding guideline is until the date of expiry of the GBER, plus an adjustment period of six months, until June 30, 2033 for a limited period. An extension is not possible via the December 31, 2033 possible.
