process optimization in textile finishing industry by means of plasma treatment with atmospheric pressure

Joint project of INPLAS members

Central point of the joint project is the fruitful transfer of atmospheric pressure plasma processes to textile industry. Therefore a partial project established a basis to go on working. It is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research with the Acronym μPlasTex (funding mark 13N9273 to 13N9277). The application partner from textile finishing industry Schmitz-Werke GmbH + Co. KG, Emsdetten, uses the plasma for production of awning fabric. This influences the manufacturing process of awning fabric (for the brands Markilux and SWELA) 

  • increase durability of awning fabrics 
  • create a structured surface with self-cleaning properties in combination with textile auxiliaries of nanotechnology
  • reduce a process step and additionally
  • improve usage properties of the material (beading effect, soiling behaviour, self-cleaning properties)

Since 2011 the system for atmospheric pressure plasma treatment works already dependable.

SOFTAL Corona & Plasma GmbH, Hamburg and the Fraunhofer IST, Brunswick, were participating as experts for atmospheric pressure plasma technology.
