Workshop "Innovative coatings for wind turbines" 2012

The first joint workshop by the community committee of the DFO, DGO, EFDS and INPLAS

For the first time the Community Committee (abbr: GA) »combined surface technology« of the organizations of DFO, DGO, EFDS and INPLAS arranged a jointly workshop on the subject »coatings for wind turbines« on 16 October 2012 at the Fraunhofer-Forum in Berlin. The aim was to communicate the latest and application-oriented information about combination layers and to discuss research topics.

These days steadily increasing requirements for materials and functions make combination layers often unavoidable. The merger of know-how of coatingrelated subdisciplines is the common goal of the community committee. The organizations combine coating processes in the range of electroplating, varnish coating technology, plasma technology, air brush technique, enamel dip coating and sol-gel-technology. By a purposeful combination of the differnet coating processes the surface technology should considerably make progress.

The workshop »Innovative coatings for wind turbines« was aimed to manufacturers and users as well as to research institutions with a focus on the use of wind energy. Materials especially in the maritime domain must be protected against corrosive influences. A variety of challenges has to be solved by offshore wind turbines.

Eight lectures of very diverse science disciplines of the wind turbine industry showed market development and current and future challenges to the topics corrosion protection, erosion protection, anti-ice-system, friction behaviour or design concepts for automatic coating techniques. In the foreground thereby was to minimize the service and repair work on current and future facilities. Nearly 70 participants displayed great interest in new coating concepts and combinations of materials.

The high level of interest clearly shows that the community committee will carry on dealing with the future topic of combination layers. The committee is open to all interested participants who search for surface related system solutions.
