In addition to direct coatings, surface activation and functionalization are the goals in the field of plastic and textile technology. By activating the surfaces by plasma, chemical bonds can be broken. The high energies of the electrons in the plasma are very suitable for this. The economic importance is already enormous. The processes are carried out at atmospheric pressure. Applications include, for example, plasma treatment of car pedestals, film and plastic packaging, food packaging or sterilization. Chemical functionalization's are also possible as a next step. This allows materials to be prepared for further surface processes. For example, technical textiles, protective clothing, filtration and transport systems can be made water and oil repellent.
