Mechanical components are subject to various tribological demands and thus a limited efficiency and life span. Here plasma surface technology offers the possibility of reducing friction and wear. In the competence field mechanical engineering companies and institutions are acting, dealing with surface treatment and coating of machining parts particularly in the area of the friction reduction, the wear and corrosion protection. A further emphasis of surface functionalization is e.g. non-adhesive characteristics or sensory abilities. Typical topics are up ratings with bearings and drive components, reduction of the drive power from spherical valves or thin section sensor systems to the measuring of strength, way, temperature and abrasion.
