The bioeconomy is a central topic for the future, which should lead to worldwide independence from fossil raw materials and decisively counteract climate change by means of a neutral CO2 balance. The challenge is to create a sustainable, competitive economy based on renewable raw materials across all sectors.

The BioEconomy Cluster is a network of more than 70 companies, research institutes and educational institutions working closely together on the foundations of a biobased economy. On the basis of non-food-relevant renewable raw materials, such as beech wood or agricultural residues, the material and energetic use of biomass shall be
in the form of innovative processes for the production of materials, platform chemicals, products and energy sources. The goal is to create a model region for the bioeconomy throughout Germany and Europe.
